The centre was built as part of the Leicester LIFT scheme to improve health services in the region. The new centre caters for up to 50,000 patients providing a single point of access to health, social care and council services all under one roof, right in the heart of the community. Services provided include GP walk-in centre, adult mental health care, speech therapy, community district and school nursing, health visiting, midwifery, community dentistry, physio and speech therapists. In addition, the facility houses a Leicester City Council customer access centre.
The form of the building is a circular rotunda with two wings easily identifiable from the main entrance leading out. Internal courtyards allow light and natural ventilation to the inner rooms, whist the full height “street” also allows plenty of light to flood down from long roof lights.
